Tip from Gary Vaynerchuk: Why Numbers Don’t Matter! [video]

Fans and AdvocatesAre you obsessing with your number of Facebook Likes, Twitter followers or Klout score? Perhaps you’re focus should be on a more important factor…quality!

However big or small, the quality of your friends, connections and followers is what matters. The ones that will be advocates for your content and your brand are the ones you should pay special attention to.

A brand advocate is someone who consistently shares your brand with their network in a positive way. By connecting with them and encouraging them to share your content, you get them to engage and sing your company’s praises which helps spread the word for you.

Based on the research of Dr. Kathleen R. Ferris-Costa from the University of Rhode Island’s College of Business Administration:

  • Advocates are 70% more likely to be seen as a source of reliable information.
  • Brand advocates are 83% more likely to share information than the average internet user.
  • Advocates are twice as likely to share product information on social networks than average web users.
  • Advocates are 3 times more likely to share brand information with someone they don’t know.

Here’s Gary Vaynerchuk author of Crush It and The Thank You Economy (affiliated link) sharing one of his tip about the importance of numbers…

Word-of-mouth marketing represents an amazing opportunity as more and more conversations are happening online, giving your company global exposure. Concentrate on the people who like you and your company and who are willing to be your advocate instead of the meaningless numbers!

Do you know who your advocates are?
